ENTRIES OF FAJR INT’L FILM FESTIVAL ON SCREEN IN OTHER CITIES

“Extortionist”, Biggest Spectator Film in Festival

TEHRAN Feb. 4 (Mehr News Agency) -- The movie “Extortionist”, directed by Farzad Mo’tamen, was the biggest spectator film at the first day of the 22nd Fajr International Film Festival (Feb.1-11).

Starring Fariborz Arab-Nia and Niki Karimi, the film “Extortionist” narrates the story of a youth named Esi who is released from prison and appointed to kill a woman named Ra’na by his old friend Tofiq.

 

“The Winning Card” by Sirus Alvand and “Osama” by Sediq Barmak were the two other films with the most spectators on the festival’s first day.

 

“The Winning Card”, the latest work of Alvand, is about a travel agency manager who has an accident with a flower girl. Starring Fariborz Arab-Nia, the film is produced by Rasul Sadr-Ameli, Sirus Alvand, with the financial support of the Art Bureau.      

 

The film “Osama”, the much-admired work of Sediq Barmak, tells the story of an Afghan girl, who due to the deplorable circumstances of women under the Taliban, acts and dresses like a boy. 

  

It should be noted that the entries participating in the 22nd Fajr International Film Festival have also been screening in the center of provinces of Mazandaran, Fars, Hormozgan, Khorasan, and Kish Island since February 3. And in Kerman Province, the entries of Fajr Festival are being screened from February 4 until February 14, 2004. According to a report by the public relations department of the festival, a total of 39 Iranian films and 36 foreign films are slated to be screened in these center provinces.   

 

People of each province will separately judge the films and the winning filmmakers will be awarded at independent closing ceremonies, simultaneously on Friday evening, February 14.
